Thank you Lade Smith CBE. It is refreshing to see a change of tone from Royal College of Psychiatrists with a new President - unafraid, honest, compassionate, ambitious for patients. It goes to show how organisational culture is set at the top. Now all psychiatrists need to live up to this example.

I have just written a new blog specially for DATAMIND - HDR UK Hub for Mental Health Research about the role of lived experience in mental health data science. I think this is a useful read for anyone working in the area, and would love to know what you think.

Thinking about this presentation we did with ⁦Lorna Collins⁩. It’s hard for people to share their experiences publicly, but it’s important to give hope to others who may feel hopeless youtube.com/watch?v=fHsmGN…

James Downs We need more nurses, Family therapists, Specialised CBT therapists, trained for eating disorders, we need AFIRD clinics, the referrals we are getting are more complex than ever, referrals coming through with children 62% weight for height, GP training, schools training NO STAFF

“WE ARE SPENDING MONEY!”

Well I’m also spending money to end global warming so let’s tick that one off, shall we? 🤦🏼‍♂️

It blows my mind that it can be considered an adequate response to concerns about eating disorder treatment (or anything else, really) for the government and NHS to say, “WE ARE SPENDING SOME MONEY”

This means basically nothing, especially to people suffering unjustly now.

TW - weights included but really interesting piece about eating disorder treatment!

One way for patients to stop this merry-go round wheel of in an out is for them to have proper treatment in the first place!

Hilarious that this letter contains reference to the peanuts that are invested in eating disorders research.

This is absolutely unacceptable communication in its failure to acknowledge the reality of how many patients are treated.

At Club Majority, we work strategically to address eight domains which are often overlooked and underappreciated in the care of those with eating disorders and disordered eating—and in which a great amount of inequity exists.
