Parents, take some time over the next few days to sit down with your child and talk about mental health. You can start the conversation by asking these questions.

Wanting to lose weight and having an uncontrollable desire to become emaciated are not the same thing.

This confusion is at the heart of our misunderstanding of anorexia.

One can trigger the other, of course, which is why the line gets blurred. But there is a line.

'I was waiting for the world to stand for its responsibility and I was waiting for the international community to intervene to help Gaza and to stop this genocide... while the whole world was celebrating New Year, we were targeted and being killed by Israel.'

As people go back to work, students go back to school or university and life starts up after New Year, please be mindful of NOT talking about your diet plans or exercise goals because you never know how triggering this may be for those around you affected by eating disorders!

A general election is on the horizon. Young people’s mental health is in a state of emergency - it’s time to address the root causes and radically improve support services. Politicians need to step up and do more for young people.

Hope Virgo Took just over 20 years for treatment to 'work' for me.
It is worth it.
The idea that people are being left to die is just so wrong.

This time between Christmas and New Years can feel a bit... odd can’t it? The days might feel like they’re blending, but remember it doesn’t matter what day it is - we’re here round the clock for you 💚

Hope Virgo In my experience, I was discharged into sole care of GP (who admitted they were ill-equipped and unable to offer any MH support); left alone
to cope as best I could. So the concept of “palliative care” is deceiving, as in truth, it is a total withdrawal of any specialised care.

Hope Virgo Not at all. That’s the same way as saying we should give up on those with treatment resistant depression and schizophrenia. As nurses we should always look for a different way to treat people if the current way isn’t working not give up!
