"Economic theory tells us that #trade can help boost employment outcomes in the long run. However, the benefits of trade are not necessarily experienced equally, and some may miss out altogether." Mairi Spowage James Black citp.ac.uk/publications/w…

Great to see Fraser of Allander Institute report in collaboration with Scottish Renewables discussed in Parliament today. Renewable energy is a hugely important industry that is a critical component in Scotland's net zero and economic ambitions.

A good thread/report from Fraser of Allander Institute which chimes with Climate Change Committee assessment of current Scottish Government climate policy and planning. Great to have agreement on a ‘Net Zero Assessment’ of spending and a climate section in the Budget but other key recommendations haven’t been agreed. 🏴
Interesting report on Scottish govt and net zero - echoes findings to Institute for Government work on the challenge of embedding net zero in the processes of government (business case, impact assessment, appraisal etc) instituteforgovernment.org.uk/publication/pa…
It’s not only carbon emissions at stake but the huge potential to reap economic & industrial benefits from timely & well planned transition to net zero. Interesting to see Fraser of Allander Institute echoing CCC on Scottish Government need to get cracking if ‘meaning’ is not to be lost altogether.
This is very much worth a read from James Black , really gets to the heart of the importance of good governance if we are to deliver the climate policies we have, remove inefficiency, improve trust and capture benefits of NetZero.
Unfinished business for the next FM, including some strong Fraser of Allander Institute criticism of the lack of rigour in hitting Scottish Government net zero targets: bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla…
Great report from CERG laying out Scottish Government climate progress & concerns for progress. SG ambitions highlighted but CERG lay out several areas with slow (or no) progress. Net Zero Test is the only 2022 recommendation to receive a non-red (amber) rating. cerg.scot/wp-content/upl…
