Miri from Maldives Underwater Initiative presenting research on coral reproductive cycles on Laamu Atoll. They found that there is no clear spawning period for Acropora sp. on @sixsenseslaamu house reef, with coral colonies spawning across several months of the year #MMSS2022

Excellent presentation by our very own Jake Edmiston and Afaaz Zahid on the adaptive management of our #LaamaseeluMasveriyaa programme at @SixSensesLaamu! This also included preliminary findings of the resort recreational fishery activities. #MMSS2022

4 out of 5 UK cod stocks are at risk of collapse. For the last 35 years, the UK Government has ignored scientific advice to stop overfishing the West of Scotland cod stock which has declined 92% since 1981. Sign the petition to help #BringBackBritishCod 👉bit.ly/bringbackbriti…

A healthy ocean provides oxygen, food, energy, jobs, livelihoods, wellbeing; it connects the world through trade & internet; it protects coastal communities, absorbs heat & regulates global weather. We must continue the #BlueThread of #OceanAction! #SDG14+ ❤️🌊

So sad to see such rare and long-lived species being removed from the deep ocean and this practice being celebrated. Surely there are plenty of other fish which are less vulnerable to overfishing we could target for food and income? #fishfortomorrow #protectthegiantgrouper

Often information on small-scale fisheries is not included in official #statistics. As long as this info remains “hidden”, small-scale #ArtisanalFisheriesAquaculture will continue to be marginalized in policy-making processes 👉 bit.ly/3VGv098 #WorldStatisticsDay

Looking forward to be heading back to the Maldives this week to expand the #LaamaseeluMasveriyaa programme. We’ll be travelling to three resorts on three different atolls! 🐟

We often ignore the importance of sustainable fisheries in tackling climate change. Check out this editorial on how overfishing contributes to the intensity of CC, which in turn makes fisheries more vulnerable and susceptible to CC frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

Last week, our team was in the southern region of Huvadhu Atoll to scope out the potential for a sustainable seafood market in the atoll. We were able to consult 127 stakeholders across the islands of Vaadhoo, Gahdhoo, Kanduhulhudhoo, Faresmaathodaa and Ayada Maldives Resort resort.

Absolutely! However, the #ocean goal #SDG14 receives the least amount of long-term funding of any of the sustainable development goals. Enormous opportunity to invest in ocean health that will benefit climate, nature and people! Fauna & Flora Friends of Ocean Action Ocean Panel

Sad update from North Dry Rocks in Key Largo: On 8/28, we found all staghorn & elkhorn #coral severely bleached & dying. There are no longer any “winners” that have escaped, & I expect all will die in the next several weeks. I can’t believe they spawned just a few weeks ago 🥺

Here's a video explainer of our new Science Magazine Policy Forum. We show that many big businesses are carrying out ecosystem restoration, but few are reporting outcomes with appropriate transparency. Paper at science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…, DM me for a copy if you can't get access
