The Gospel isn’t just good news for our afterlife but also good news for what we’ve done or failed to do in our past and what Jesus empowers us to do in the present!

If we want people to move toward Jesus we need to create spaces where it’s safe to be broken and normal to be needy.

The miracle of Mark 6 is not that Jesus walked on water—the miracle is that the God of the universe got into the boat with sinners. By walking on water He declared: “I AM GOD.” By getting into the boat He demonstrated: “I AM WITH YOU.”

The gospel is such good news because even though we could never measure up, Jesus measured up for us. One of the things that makes the gospel so beautiful—and yet so scandalous—is NOT who it excludes, but rather whom it includes.

If your theology is built on God working the way you think, in the manner you think, and on the timeline you think—then you’re going to be frustrated and disappointed with God most of your life. There are some secret things that belong only to the Lord that we’ll never know.

“Follow me, and I WILL MAKE YOU a fisher of men.” Jesus didn’t say, “Follow me and MAKE YOURSELF into a fisher of men.” He said, “If you follow me, this is what I will do in you.” The pressure is off. However, if you are not a fisher of men—who are you following?
