Great to see two talented researchers, one current colleague (Jacobo Licona Equis Research) and one former colleague (Esteban Ponce de León DFRLab - @dfrlab.bsky.social), discussing the challenges of Spanish-language disinformation in the same article. #Collaboration apnews.com/article/russia…

Last week, Meet the Press covered the crisis of Spanish-language #disinformation and #misinformation targeting Latino communities in the United States. My colleague Jacobo Licona shared some of what he is tracking in the full segment below. www-nbcnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.nbcnew…

Disinfo targeted at Latinos in the US is eroding trust in news + institutions. I’ll discuss Equis Research’s insights into the flow of Spanish-language disinfo + what more can be done this Thursday (10am EST) before the Committee on House Administration. cha.house.gov/committee-acti…

The richest (and one of the most influential) person in the world supports an extremist politician who has shown support for QAnon and has spread most of the fringe narratives you can think of in the last couple of years. Totally normal.

I am begging us all to move away from “susceptibility” as a framework– as a matter of both strategy and substance.

ICYMI: This summer, 195 House Republicans voted AGAINST the right to contraception, including condoms, the pill, and IUDs. Hard to believe, right? We thought so, too. Here’s what happened, the receipts, and what we are doing about it. 🧵 a thread:

A PSA: don't blame disinfo for what Latinos do or don't do in this election. Latinos are NOT more susceptible to disinformation than other groups; to say so suggests Latino voters are somehow less savvy than others.

Over-generalizing or painting disinformation as THE crux of why Latinos vote one way or another downplays the very real factors, issue preferences and lived experiences that shape Latino voting behaviors. It is misguided to say lies online are solely/mostly to blame for đź—łshifts.
