My statement following today's Eid-Al-Fitr celebration in Ipswich.

This was a historic occasion, and we should be proud of Ipswich’s diversity and sense of community, but we must never tolerate the hatred we have seen online today.

Following years of campaigning by our party and our movement, the Government is finally u-turning and dropping their opposition to creating a new offence to protect shopworkers from violence and abuse.

As the holy month of Ramadan ends and Muslims look forward to Eid al-Fitr, I want to take the opportunity to say Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating.

I hope this day is a chance to gather together, spend time with family and honour the end of a blessed month.
