There are now 2 distinct visions of GB Energy: The incremental but crucial return of public ownership, or an investment vehicle derisking the private sector to the detriment of the public sector balance sheet GBE will be a key indicator of a future Labour govts climate ambition

Last year, 234,400 new homes were completed — not actually that far off the magical 300,000 per year figure the bulldoze and blitz proponents often call for. But of those new homes, just 4% were genuinely affordable social rent homes. Another 23% were other “affordable products”

Great thread with useful trends, but it misses *the key* issue with renewable installs. Almost all new energy produced by renewables is just going to *new* energy demand. That not a transition - that’s a side hustle.

From the same article "inequality still exists – and is arguably becoming more pronounced" A single focus on grades (under the myth of meritocracy) allows us to believe wider social and educational progress is being made. It isn't.

Paris could see temperatures of 45°C next week, taking into account the heat island effect, with tropical nights also. Europe and the Mediterranean are experiencing the fastest warming in recorded human history. Hard not to ask: what will 2035 look like at this rate?

Reaching net-zero targets will be cheaper than ignoring them (OBR). *with the added benefit of making life more bearable on a rapidly warming planet and reducing the inequality being driven by climate breakdown.
