I was born 14 years after VE Day and today’s birthday is the only one I remember where there’s been flag waving and street parties. In Europe, the occasion is marked quietly and solemnly, in a church, giving thanks for peace. I’d rather wave the flag for Jack Charlton, 85 today.

I haven’t seen my 86 year old mum since January. Since then she’s been diagnosed with dementia and is being cared for at home in County Durham. I’m in Kent and would love to see her but I’ve stuck by the rules, unlike #cummings #sackcummings
