Something I've been discussing with pals: Are babies becoming a luxury item? Because I'm ~30 and the only people I know thinking about having kids are on pretty spicy salaries or have their own parents helping

I've worked with @AmberLeventry at multiple publications over the years and cannot recommend them enough—as a voice, visionary, editor, educator, empath...and non-alliterative fantastic qualities too. Hire. this. human. Or you're missing out.

I’ve been heavily criticised for over 25 years as I’ve said the data supporting PGT-A is not robust. I feel bitter sweet that theres increasing evidence showing it doesn’t work. All those patients who paid for it. Many people have got rich. Stop exploiting infertile patients.

10 yrs ago we took our son to meet his known donor’s mom who was dying of cancer. Before, we hadn’t wanted our donor’s extended family involved. Going changed us for the better. Wish Nana could see him now. #loveislove #lgbtqfamilies slate.com/human-interest…

My doctor recently asked me if I felt like I knew how ulcerative colitis works, and I was like, "Doc, I am trillions of cells that have to work together nearly perfectly for me to be not dead. It's not that I don't understand how I'm sick...I don't understand how anyone is well."

Doctors at a major US insurance company deny tens of thousands of claims a month without even looking at patients’ files. “We literally click & submit,” a former Cigna doctor told @ProPublica & The Capitol Forum. “It takes all of 10 seconds to do 50 at a time.” The inside story 🧵

Today is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, and I truly hate awareness days. But here are four things I’ve learned as an adult with CP that I’d like for people, particularly parents of kids with CP, to know:

The parents of two children who died by AR-15 gunfire consented to having The Post visually reconstruct what the bullets did to their bodies. A spokesman for the family of Peter Wang, a Parkland victim, said the "parents want people to know the truth" wapo.st/3JRkV4o

30 infants die and we recall 4.7 mil Rock ‘n Play Sleepers. 2 toddlers die and we recall 3.2 mil Calico Critters toys. 2 infants die and we recall so much formula that the US goes into shortage. Last year, over 6,000 children were injured by gun violence. Nothing. Nada.

Somewhere in Alabama there is at least one woman, hoping IVF could help her have a baby, who just saw several thousand dollars and ~7-10 days of injecting herself with drugs all go down the drain.

Based on the research I did for my book, this isn’t surprising. The difference in the rate of women wanting kids vs men wanting kids likely has to do with women having more realistic expectations of what parenting entails and an anticipation that they’ll do more of the work.

I wrote for TIME about people who regret having children I've often been told that such regret isn’t possible; for this piece, I interviewed parents who love their kids & who, if they could turn back time, might not choose to be parents again
