When put to a vote, people choose speed over safety. You can't put traffic calming projects up for a vote or people will continue to be seriously injured or killed.

Interesting idea! Though the locks aren't secure enough for long-term storage, if they are supervised in some way (like being placed next to a parking attendant or security office), they could be a wonderful option for those times you need to lock up but didn't expect to need to.

My most radical belief is that a lot of people would love to live in a neighborhood with great cycling and transit infrastructure:

Bike lanes are meaningless if they are just paint on a surface.

"Just go around." The more that vehicles isolate us from each other, the easier it is to develop Car Brain and justify antisocial behavior like "blocking the box" to make sure you get through a light. Soundproof, tinted windows, thick windshields, etc.
