For student coming onto #cardiacsurgery: here’s a primer on cardiopulmonary bypass I usually give between rounds and incision You won’t pass perfusion boards from this 🧵but hopefully you’ll feel more oriented at the table. #cardiotwitter #surged #meded #CTSurgery

I thought this was worth sharing. I have only encountered this once. For a lack of a better term, I am going to call this a MAComa = liquefaction necrosis of mitral annular calcifications. #cardiotwitter Valva Mitralis

Almost 4 decades ago, Andreas Gruentzig described "the ideal catheter" to me. He foresaw the development of FFR, hi-pressure balloons, aspiration catheters, stents, & more. His thoughts on physiologic measurement both during & post-procedure are thought-provoking. #AngioHistory

Today’s bedtime reading. The 35 year old male patient was originally implanted 7 years ago with a HVAD as a bridge to transplantation. Last year the patient developed pump thrombosis on 3 occasions. Therefore, the pump was exchanged to HeartMate 3 LVAS.

Important to be familiar with instrument names. I know different names used depending on Geography. Anyone do a North American version for me? #SurgEd #CoreSurgicalTraining #BasicSurgicalSkills

🧵regarding some techniques for reloading the needle holder for the next suture throw. In particular: the methods for doing this one-handed (without your forceps), why you would want to be able to do this, how to do it, and how to adjust the needle without grabbing it. (1/ )

The youngest heart transplant performed was on a newborn 6 days old! These tiny hearts can be as small as a walnut, with blood vessels measuring just a few millimeters in diameter. Take a look at the image below showcasing a pediatric heart transplant.
