On Monday, I asked my students through TEAMS, to share something interesting/surprising/disappointing about their break. I went first. 60% responded & reading their comments was pretty awesome. When they started reacting to each other's posts, it was pure magic. #relationships

Thanks for putting it together on such short notice. It was helpful & great to hear from the district. Incidentally, I could better assess who is ok & who needs more direct support among my students, if I didn't have 117 currently. We need #quarters to prepare for ⬆️ disruptions.

Hey #bced teachers, in #Ramadan consider freeing yr classroom for Zuhr (early afternoon prayer) so students can pray in comfort for the 15-20 mins required (take yr own class for a walk). Sadly, many are left to scramble or go outside & no one should be cold while praying. #bctf

This week I presented (& learned from) #bced language #teachers on student-centered practices like inviting students to teach us (& each other) greetings/thank you/goodbye in the languages of their birth. When they become the teachers & their stories are centered, they shine.✨

I've made hundreds of these phone calls home, stepped away from the meeting, smiled as small voices fill me in on the events of the day. There are still countless barriers to #women w/children doing executive work & until we prioritize & model balance, attrition will continue.

BC teachers and workers everywhere are fighting for cost of living adjustments to salary in our contracts, & what we want for ourselves, we want for everyone else also. Not to mention, increases to the public sector lead to increases everywhere, so let's gooo!

The #BCTF RA is the TF's 2nd largest decision-making body, meeting 3x yr. Currently, 100's of BC teachers/activists setting the course for #publiced in an increasingly complex world. Thanks to my colleagues doing this work & to everyone engaging in their communities/workplaces.
