The roles of ER-derived "omegasomes" and their hallmark protein DFCP1 in autophagosome biogenesis has remained enigmatic. We now provide evidence that DFCP1 is an ATPase that constricts omegasomes which shape autophagosomes in selective autophagy. rdcu.be/dgmP1
