2. Measures to ensure that the staff and faculty are enforcers for these practices and not enablers of discrimination (which is quite common) 3. How this will be ensured, implemented, and improved over time - with assistance of legal and policy teams

Bringing Indigenous people into the forefront of these conversations& advocating for our presence in planning considering most of these “green burial” sites run through & over our ancestral lands and our relatives bones are still in museums and desecrated while Non-Natives profit

Tourists don’t see the Indigenous people of their vacation destinations as humans. They expect every local to perform for & serve their every whim, simply because they spent a lot of discretionary funds to gawk & gasp over the cultures poor Indigenous people struggle to maintain.

For those that are telling me, "Tourism is good for you! Don't ya know?" No, the hotels and venues that conferences (ACM CHI Conference, ahem) use have been stealing water from locals on every Island for decades. It's not an existential or 2nd order effect– it is happening now.

I'm struggling to care about AI. I feel alienated and depressed. I'm watching the priorities I've defined & developed solutions for ignored, while what I've warned & been most concerned about--and offered solutions for--play out in real time. Leaders have been hostile, demeaning.

I took a cab today. The driver was afraid to park anywhere as someone could "beat him up" for parking wrong or ask him to pay. He said I am from "sapera" caste (snake charmer), people will ofc beat me up - "even when I line up for free food". Yes, saperas are scheduled caste.

The fact that these straightforward ideas, so clearly articulated by @timnitGebru (@dair-community.social/bsky.social), are treated as unwelcome in AI, makes me want to cry. Alt: timnit presenting with slide that reads: Instead of boundless expansion how about enough? (1/n)

This is why we need more of us-Indigenous scientists- going into land tenure and rights so that we can sit in-front governments, scientists, big corporations, etc. and advocate for our people 💖 However, not all kin has our best interests.

People are rightfully dunking in this take, but can we just say how much OpenAI employees are getting high on their own supply? Absolutely no reflexivity, knowledge of history, or critical analysis. Just vibes.

Really shocking how much damage a single scaremongering article by the The New York Times has done to journalism in India. And they were warned that this would happen. scroll.in/article/105714…

It will take 10 minutes to scroll through all the names listed of Palestinians killed by Israel. It will take 1 second to realize how many are children. And it take a lifetime to ask yourself, why didn't I do more to stop this? There is still time. #ceasefirenow

I think it is helpful to read other cases of genocide denial if you want to help yourself figure out what to engage with and what not to engage with. The talking points are exactly the same. All genocides work the same.
