Love this - it’s not about the number of papers but how it improves the care of babies. (However, in order to get funding to do that science, you often need many publications - so I get both sides).

This has been a career transforming award for me and my research team. My knowledge and skills as a PI have improved immensely, I have submitted an R01, and formed a research group that meets regularly to discuss our studies and findings. Thank you UW Institute for Clinical & Translational Research!

There have always been two Joe Bidens. The empathetic, decent, big-hearted leader, forged in loss and grief, finding the good in his friends and opponents, in love with America, arms wide and open with space for everyone. And there’s the blowhard with a chip on his shoulder,

Neonatal AKI: 30% and 3 are Important Numbers. In this systematic review of acute kidney injury in neonates, data from 201 observational studies showed significant heterogeneity of pooled estimates. On meta-analysis, point estimate of AKI incidence (any stage) was 30%, and that

These data emphasize the importance of monitoring renal outcomes in neonates, particularly in research, as emphasized by Reidy et al: rdcu.be/dOCmp

The risk of adverse kidney outcomes was highest in the first year post-AKI but remained elevated for >15 years. Currently, few pediatric AKI survivors have adequate follow-up. These results justify kidney health surveillance after pediatric AKI to detect CKD and hypertension.

Detecting a drop in UOP is incredibly important in neonates at risk for AKI - hear we see data looking at those who undergo CBP surgery. If you don’t look you won’t find! Neonatal Kidney Collaborative (NKC)

I feel parenting is harder than being either a Neonatologist or a Researcher on most days - nice to see that acknowledgement from the Surgeon General as well. Nice read. nytimes.com/2024/08/28/opi…
