The Truss honours list should seal the fate of the House of Lords once and for all. Despite the good work of many of its peers this institution is an irredeemable symbol of cronyism, corruption and greed. Britain is no democracy with this upper chamber. For god’s sake abolish it.

Yesterday I successfully defended my thesis at Uni of Birmingham . A big thank you to my examiners, Adam Michalchuk and Steven Hepplestone, and Daniel Reed for chairing the viva! I especially want to thank Andrew M. and the Morris Group. I've thoroughly enjoyed my PhD!

I just finished the first week of my postdoc with Graeme Day at University of Southampton. Thank you to the Day group for such a warm welcome. I look forward to a productive few years!

It's great to see this work published in Nature Synthesis today. CSP work performed by Masih Hafizi. I was going to make a few comments on this work, but Andy Cooper has already summarised nicely. 👇

Thirty years ago, the Channel Tunnel finally linked the United Kingdom and France! This feat brought people closer together, gave new impetus to our trade and confirmed the strength of our political relationship.

Just published in nature, our new paper with Graeme Day's group, "Porous isoreticular non-metal organic frameworks" (N-MOFs). Congratulations to Megan OShaughnessy who led this work during her PhD at University of Liverpool 🎉 nature.com/articles/s4158… 🧵1/10

We're planning a workshop (in-person in Southampton, UK, early 2025) to offer training in our crystal structure prediction code (gitlab.com/mol-cspy/mol-c…). #compchem To judge the level of interest, here is a form to register interest: forms.gle/1pt3ZVWTj7NkFR…

Really interesting paper by yang et al on a NN for predicting inorganic crystal minima: nature.com/articles/s4146… It would be interesting to know how far from the minima your starting structure can be before the model fails.

Considering making the move across to Bluesky , but a social media platform is only as good as the people on it. Anyone know if there's much of a Science scene over there yet? Also, is there a hosting service other than the default that's worth using?
