Our ES James Hutton field team were recently at #Balmoral taking #peat core samples to measure #hydraulic conductivity. It can be a hard job just getting the equipment to site! But it will help us understand peat health and support our peatland team’s #science. #Fridayinthefield

BSSS member, Professor Lorna Dawson, documents her experience using a #BSSS loan box to help explain the importance of soil whilst exhibiting at Arable Scotland earlier this year. James Hutton Institute Lorna Dawson, CBE, FRSE, FRSA #britishsocietyofsoilscience soils.org.uk/case-studies/l…

Had a fun day on Ben Lui sampling some high altitude soil for the James Hutton Institute #MunroSoils citizen science project. The project aims to collect DNA from soil across Scotland's alpine zone to understand biodiversity variability & provide a baseline to track future changes🧪⛰️

Great to be part of the Mountain Heights, Hidden Depths Munro Soil Survey run by James Hutton Institute . My adopted Munro was Beinn a' Chaorainn from which I collected soil samples from 3 designated sample points. walkhighlands

Our head of soil #forensics Lorna Dawson (Lorna Dawson, CBE, FRSE, FRSA) & other Hutton scientists were featured in the BBC Four ‘Catching History's Criminals: The Forensics Story’. Using Hutton expertise to identify the location of a #soil sample. ▶️From 12mins > bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

Our EBS James Hutton team has been out in Perthshire taking #soil, water and #wildlife scat (poo) samples. These samples will help to hunt down the #microorganism that causes Johne’s disease, a fatal wasting disease in #cattle and #sheep. #Fridayinthefield

It's great to have our #MunroSoils #citizenscience campaign featured on the recent BBC Radio Scotland Out of Doors programme. Hear more about the #Mountain heights, hidden depths project from 1:05:50> 🔊More: bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

I learned a huge amount recording this podcast on equine grass sickness. It’s a devastating disease impacting at least one in 200 UK #horses a year. We’re hoping to find out it’s cause and stop that toll. Listen to learn more. #EGS The Moredun Foundation
