Since Covid started, I have aimed to keep an overflow of ~3 months of operational expenses for my small business in reserve and maintain a zero debt strategy. Cashflow is king, and can sometimes be the difference between survival and bankruptcy in the blink of an eye. /

“The winter holiday season is meant to bring us warmth of many kinds at the coldest and darkest time of the year. It's meant to lift our spirits, bring us good cheer, draw us together in our traditions and rituals, ease our burdens, and renew our hopes.”

“I, for one, wish you good memories of this holiday. And I hope you’ll be able to look for all the different ways that people have of showing that they love you.”

serious question: presumably these people sent their own kids to school, which is *also* subsidized by taxpayers. why do we all understand the value of a publicly funded system for kids 5-18 but not for 0-5?

“The only way to have the childcare that all these parents want, and that we’ve been working for for 50 years, is to have it be publicly funded with really solid public policy,” says ⁦MarthaFriendly⁩ chatelaine.com/longforms/chil…

Oh my GOODNESS I’ve wanted to see this for ages! 🥳 Alders contain tannins that leach into gathering raindrops, dyeing the liquid with colour. The effect is *stunning*. This Alder (Alnus glutinosa) I came across was glinting gold, amber & deep wine red. How beautiful is that! 😍

Winter trees make my heart happy 😍 For me, they turn a winter walk into a treasure hunt - there’s so much colour around if we look closely. I just *love* how they’re all exactly the same yet completely different at the same time, how head-pleasing is that?! 🤌

Yes, it's fun to watch the ducklings in the park, but sometimes it's just as fun to watch the people watching the ducklings, this moment of vulnerability we are sharing.

My 5 year old has started asking “why are there no small potties here” anytime we go to a public restroom and its got me noticing how inaccessible so much of the public space is for children.

fascinating to see someone describing my ideal scenario— local daycare facilities springing up to meet demand, creating a critical density of childcare that serves the neighbourhood— as a worst-case outcome
