Why does it not surprise me that Walmart's 21st century version of 'the company store' - onsite childcare - is operated by Bright Horizons 📷. No not-for-profit childcare for them! bit.ly/4dl4w5X

Critical research by Elliot Haspel exposes a cascade of risks associated with corporate consolidation and continuous profit growth in childcare(the biz model): eroding quality of care, crushing working conditions, and rising risk of system collapse for whole markets as workers flee.

Closure at local YMCA shouldn't jeopardize for hundreds of families/children. As an essential service, should be a public responsibility to ensure that these are fully maintained bit.ly/3QzcFdB Child Care Now Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care

Housing and childcare- families need these supports as does our economy. Childcare is an economic driver that is silently known, but vastly under-estimated. Public funding for non- profit is the solution. Quality is the key to resilience.

From Armine Yalnizyan, three smart ideas for to follow budget: a) Fix the childcare workforce; b) Prevent private equity predators from scooping up public money (guardrails); c) Make the most of new housing/infrastructure for childcare bit.ly/49JVmwS

I completely agree with @katrinacBurnaby that it's time to move away from the market. We in the childcare movement have been urging this for years but moving it to a public system needs to be done through public policy.

Re: Université d'Ottawa | University of Ottawa: this report on university Canada-wide shows Université d'Ottawa | University of Ottawa with a low ratio of spaces to its population. Since then (10 yrs ago), other universities have expanded childcare, not cut it bit.ly/3VZ1xtG (Appendix F). Wrong move for a university.

Re: Université d'Ottawa | University of Ottawa closing its only centre, rather than taking the opportunity to join the most significant Canadian social program since Medicare - and support its population.

So shameful that elderly residents need to demonstrate against forced evictions by Chartwell, one of the ON govt-funded private equity-backed companies Armine Yalnizyan called out bit.ly/3W1ozAe 'Getting it done', eh?

If Université d'Ottawa | University of Ottawa doesn't find a home for its childcare centre, will be one of very few CDN universities that fails to support its students/faculty/staff. Would do them such a disservice, as quality non-profit is in such short supply Child Care Now (Ottawa) Jacques Frémont @ChildcareON

This kind of bunkum presented as informed comment is part and parcel of our anti-democratic drift bit.ly/49xBkWe. It demeans the media's role in legitimate public debate and airing divergent opinions on important issues like National Post

I hope the community is paying close attention to this. The national childcare program for which so many of us have advocated for so long is a ripe little plum in this international profit-seeking game.

I spent a lot of time on this piece and everything I learned made me more mad.

The Ford government is giving even more money to long-term-care operators facing lawsuits for negligence.
