Wildland firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities. Just this week, Nevada’s Silver State Hotshot Crew was on the ground in Washoe County. The least we can do is ensure they are paid fairly and can access retirement benefits and mental health services.

A flaw in our Social Security system has prevented millions of retired police officers, firefighters, teachers, and other public servants from accessing benefits they earned. I am joining a bipartisan effort to advance legislation to repeal the WEP and GPO and right this wrong.

Thirty years ago today, the U.S. passed a ban on assault weapons. Since the ban expired, these guns have been used in mass shootings like those in Las Vegas, Uvalde, and Apalachee. It’s past time to pass another ban on these deadly weapons.
