been reading discourse re: music promotion, artists struggling to break etc — music is in an odd place; handful of artists have had big zeitgeist moments, some have managed to build cult fanbases & others have followed direct-to-fan crowdfunding models but vast majority r in flux

would argue this is largely due to a shift towards two things: 1. music becoming secondary to content / accompanying ‘story’ 2. songs > artists real desperation for authenticity in music but structural norms now dictate that songs r often bigger than the artists who make them
