OTD 1683 the Holy Roman Empire and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, both under the command of King John III Sobieski, defeated the Ottoman army at the Battle of Vienna. My 7th great grandfather, Jan Franciszek Ignacy Tuchołka, was one of the famed ‘Winged Hussars’.

Traffic, Blind Faith, the Spencer Davis Group and then he played all of the instruments on his solo debut album Arc of a Diver, and sold millions with Talking Back to the Night, Back in the High Life, and Roll with It, and Steve Winwood is still underrated.

#OTD in 1992, Russian President Boris Yeltsin gave Poland Kremlin documents proving that Stalin and the Politburo were behind the #KatyńMassacre. The truth about this crime had been forbidden throughout the entire communist period.

OTD 1939 - a cousin, Count Stanisław Karłowski, was amongst 30 Polish men murdered by the Nazis in Gostyń, in west central Poland. They were on a list of the Polish elite prepared with the help of some members of the German minority living in Poland.

I teach history in Australia. We teach WW2 but mostly focus on ourselves. I used to think some silly things about Poland in the war, like: -They used cavalry against tanks. -They lost easily. -After 1939 they're out of the war. Now I know: -They lost because the Soviets also

The decision by Imperial War Museums to close the Lord Ashcroft Gallery was truly heartbreaking, but the stories of bravery told there must live on. I am delighted to announce the launch of a new virtual tour so you can see the Gallery for yourself 👇👇👇 👀 lordashcroftmedalcollection.com
