Out today!📣 Pindondang et al. used camera-trap data to predict suitable habitat for Asian tapirs across Sumatra, finding only 36% of the most critical habitat is formally protected. They highlight priority areas for conservation of the Endangered species: doi.org/m6mg

This #WorldLionDay we're reading Horion et al.'s camera-trap study of large carnivores in Niokolo-Koba National Park, Senegal. They found lion site use was concentrated close to the Gambian River, probably because of higher prey biomass near the water🦁doi.org/mvrz

Solutions for #humanelephantcoexistence aren't easy. Barriers exist for farmers trying to mitigate crop foraging by #elephants. In our paper we show that many farmers aren't exposed to info on how to build deterrents or live safely around elephants & more: cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Out now!🐘 Von Hagen et al. found that most of the local farmers they surveyed had never received information on ways to prevent crop foraging or how to live safely near #elephants, exacerbating barriers to mitigating human—elephant conflicts in Kenya: doi.org/ng6d

King et al. used scat analysis to characterize the diet of lions in Tsavo, Kenya. Large ungulates like buffalo were the preferred prey, but high consumption of hirola & Grevy’s zebra could have a major impact on the populations of these threatened species: doi.org/nhcs
