A limited Grizzly bear hunt has returned to Alberta. Let's be clear - this is a threatened species, and introducing a hunt is not going to reduce human-wildlife conflict.

Grizzly bears are a threatened species. Yet the UCP have just sneakily declared the grizzly bear hunt back on. MLA Sarah Elmeligi, MLA Banff-Kananaskis (an ACTUAL bear biologist) has been clear: killing grizzlies won’t reduce human-bear conflict. I’m angry and so are many of you. Let the UCP know.

The UCP have once again thrown decades of research out the window in favour of a plan that seems straight out of a Wild West film… After zero public consultation & clearly no input from conservation experts, the UCP have opened the door for Albertans to hunt grizzlies. #AbLeg

I’ve honestly never hated a Premier (Danielle Smith), government (UCP) or province (Alberta) more than I do right now. Everything Smith touches is a fucking horrible idea. After 18-year moratorium, Alberta grizzly bear hunt to resume calgaryherald.com/news/local-new… via Calgary Herald

The company owned by Todd Loewen, Alberta's Minister of Forestry, Parks and Tourism, used to sell "hunts" for deer within fenced ranches. How sporting! Loewen quietly re-introduced Alberta's grizzly hunt after an 18-year moratorium. #ableg

#AlbertaLeg will allow hunting of problem #grizzlybears as wildlife management tool. The grizzly is still a THREATENED species. The prioritization of habitat conservation has been severely overlooked in this case, says Tara Russell ℹ️ cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

“This seems like a …decision intended to appease Minister Loewen’s ties to the guide-outfitting and trophy hunting industries,” said John Marriott. “Why weren’t grizzly bear researchers involved in this decision?” Corruption. That’s why. calgaryherald.com/news/local-new…

EDITORIAL: The return of a measure of grizzly bear hunt – particularly without public consultation – is the latest failing of the provincial government when it comes to managing wildlife. rmoutlook.com/opinion/editor…

Canada: grizzly bear hunting quietly reinstated in Alberta. Conservationists say it’s a ‘slap in the face’ to those who are trying to save the threatened species. This is a terrible decision. 😡 #BanTrophyHunting amp.theguardian.com/world/article/…

Nearly every year, at least one horse dies because of the dangerous & reckless chuckwagon racing at the Calgary Stampede. Urge the premier of Alberta & the minister of agriculture & forestry to end this deadly event before more horses die. peta.vg/2082 via PETA

I’ll leave this here for anyone who isn’t sure who’s responsible for Wildfires. If provinces need federal assistance, they have to ask for it and long before they lose an entire town. Not after. Danielle Smith is highly incompetent because she knows that. Hold her accountable.

I’m very sad to hear the building that brought so much joy to many Alberta families including those in Edmonton-Glenora is going to be demolished without engagement of the community. Many organizations have expressed interest in repurposing portions of this historic building.

Canadian public money should not be used to support the production or screening of media that attempts to whitewash Russia’s war crimes. Ukrainians are fighting for their sovereignty and for democracy—there can be no moral equivalency in this conflict.
