I found these historic photographs of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in the British Library, London. This rare image with the Indian Franchise Committee (Lothian Committee) is likely unseen by most. Seeing Babasaheb’s original photo left me deeply moved.

In Indian history, for the first time, the King of Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, gave reservations to backward classes. Who were these backward classes? He defined them as all communities except for Brahmins, Prabhus, Shenvis, Parsis.
