I’ve seen several tweets comparing this to Nazis / The Holocaust and saying things like “this is how it begins”. I teach Holocaust Literature so let me be clear - this ISN’T how it began. This is already several stages along the way. #NeverAgainIsNow x.com/laurenduca/sta…

This is amazing news. The £1k+ fees for citizenship held back so many children and young people from being formally recognised as British. This ruling will allow so many people to obtain the documents they need to move forward with their lives. Well done to all those involved!

First up we hear from Avril Sharp, Kalayaan’s Policy Officer who tells us the origins of the report: a migrant domestic #worker in the #NRM questioned why she couldn’t work. ‘I have hands and feet, I can move, I can work, why is the government stopping me?

Momentum around this petition from The Voice of Domestic Workers and supported by Kalayaan🧡 is mounting! Please sign and share. Domestic workers need the option to extend their visas beyond the initial six months, in order to have a genuine ability to leave situations of abuse and exploitation

I’ll be talking about what makes migrant domestic workers vulnerable to abuse & what needs to change to keep them safe & protected at work. Ultimately it’s a power imbalance, one that is heavily in favour of employers & needs to be recalibrated. So let’s dive in… Kalayaan🧡

Domestic work is WORK. It’s a hard & demanding job. You are on your feet for hours cleaning and cooking, looking after children, taking care of the elderly & other tasks around the house. It’s often viewed as low skilled but is just low paid & undervalued Kalayaan🧡
