‘It is very hard to educate a child who is hungry, cold or reeling from trauma. By stealth, schools have become the fourth emergency service, but not overtly by policy discussion and mutual decision: rather because other local services stopped.’

1. Exclusions/suspensions simply don’t happen as casually as is often suggested, no one wants to exclude 2. Continuous and Persistent disruption IS serious 3. The rise in exclusions/suspensions might be because of behaviour deteriorating rather than the level of need increasing

A potential unfunded 2.8% pay increase will tip many schools over the edge. Who will suffer? Children. Who will have to pick up even more? An already over-stretched workforce expected to do more with less.

MUST BE FULLY FUNDED. There is no way we can afford this from existing budgets. Otherwise it'll be cuts and it'll likely be support staff cuts. Which is not sustainable when we're being asked to be more inclusive.

Schools: ban smartphones, for the sake of your children's sanity, learning, and safety. I hear a lot of people say, 'No, teach them how to use phones responsibly'. But: 1. Protecting them from the habit of obsessively being online during their formative developmental years,

There is one big factor that clearly explains the performance gap between girls and boys at school: behaviour. Boys disproportionately account for the majority of suspensions, exclusions and most behaviour records. Guess what mucking around does to your academic achievement?

The Government promised a 4% pay rise but is only funding under 3%. That leaves schools with a £600 million shortfall, which will mean more cuts to vital services. Schools can’t afford more cuts.✂️ Vote here.👉 NEUActivate.com #FundFairPay #SaveOurSchools

This is absurd. The vast majority of children can sit an exam with others, and the main reason why so many now think that we can't is because we tell them they can't. Adults need to teach children that they *can* cope, because when we don't, we create children who believe they

A powerful and important post about how some classrooms, in an attempt to be ‘trauma-informed’, create traumatising experiences for the rest of the class. This is worth reading for anyone who thinks that the well- behaved cohort of students is there solely to act as a life

She’s also wrong about the best way to close the gap. It’s not just poverty-related factors that leads to inequality-it’s a chaotic curriculum, poor pedagogy, and terrible behaviour that harrows outcomes. scotsman.com/news/politics/…

Every time I hear someone say that ‘building relationships is how we get children to behave’ I’m amazed how often they then don’t define what A) they mean by a relationship B) how to actually build this mysterious thing. This leads to multiple errors, eg trying to get kids to
