Yesterday I was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature at a beautiful event. Here I am signing my name in the roll book with George Elliot's pen. Not a moment that my teenage self would have ever dreamed of. So many lovely people including a fellow Claire 🩷

The Dickensian world of publishing. Until the royalties on this book reach £30 I will not be paid them. Since the book came out in 1992 and my last share of royalties was 59p, it is unlikely this will ever happen. Where will it go in the end?
