I've done more research. If you believe that novels are integral to reading curriculum, there are only three programs that have a nice selection in 5th grade. Reading Reconsidered, Bookworms, and Fishtank. Here is the thread that I wrote in December. Here is Fishtank

🚨 New study reveals that when used to summarize scientific research, generative AI is nearly five times LESS accurate than humans. Many haven't realized, but Gen AI's accuracy problem is worse than initially thought.

Vocab programs - I know using words from the texts students are reading is often advised, but I'm after some stand alone vocab programs. I have Sadler's vocabulary workshop, but what else is out there that is good for upp. elementary? Bonus if it includes morphology.

I'm skeptical of ed policies promoting "evidence-based" curriculum and instruction. They usually lead to check-list reviews by a panel of "experts." To identify good math and reading programs, run evaluations of whether programs teach students rdg/math and publish the results.

The problem with education research is that far too many people are spending their time interpreting the entrails with meta-analysis when what we need is better entrails.

Many students struggle in maths not because they can’t calculate, but because they don’t see what matters. Variation theory offers a research-informed method to guide attention where it matters. A thread inspired from a Bruno Reddy OBE & Anna Stokke podcast 🧵⬇️

Those Kiwis are ahead of us Aussies again, this time on seeing off open-plan classrooms - not fit for purpose and actually counter-productive. 1news.co.nz/2025/07/16/no-…

A big thank you to Sean Morrisey for putting together a fantastic curriculum that seems to have worked really well for his own class. I am excited to bring that program to my own classroom, and hopefully beyond.

'Citation laundering' is a big problem in education research. This is where claims get repeated without verification, and the underlying studies often have serious methodological flaws or effect size inflation. Citations in the field of education academia are often decorative.

The #RunningRecord is not a valid and reliable reading progress monitoring tool. La Trobe University #SOLARLab PhD student Annie Unger explains why in this EducationHQ AU article (open-access link embeded): educationhq.com/news/how-runni…

The irony of this video: if you try and learn how to swim through the 'deeper way' of discovering it for yourself, there's a fair chance you'll drown.
