Head of Department Professor Anna Sobek opened the session by thanking Professor De Wit for "always saying" to taking on challenges that benefited all. Professor Matt MacLeod Matthew MacLeod followed with a "scientific analysis" of Professor De Wit's contribution to science!

In her research, Professor De Wit showed the increasing concentration of brominated flame retardants in breast milk and in the eggs of birds, like peregrine falcons. Some of these substances are now banned, partly due to her work.

Big, detailed feature article from yesterday about PFAS in US drinking water. Lots of nice quotes from some guy called "Prof Cousins" (Ian Cousins) who seems smart. I learned the difference between an MCLG and an MCL... undark.org/2024/01/15/dri…

A new study published in Science Advances shows that crushing waves re-emit PFAS, the forever chemicals, back to land in a "boomerang effect," posing serious health risks, especially in coastal regions. Get the full story 👉shorturl.at/ejtN0

Extremely thankful and delighted that the team won this best paper award. Although it was a team effort, Amanda gets most of the credit for sure! #PFAS #Batteries Jonathan Benskin

Important take by Matthew MacLeod on the Nature article published yesterday by Cottom et al.: Waste management won’t solve the #plastics problem — we need to cut consumption. Common sense really, all things considered👇 nature.com/articles/d4158…

„#Microplastics were detected in all semen & urine samples, with participants typically exposed to 3–5 different types. The detection rates of PS, PP & PE were the highest. Notably, PTFE exposure was significantly associated with decreased semen quality.“ thelancet.com/journals/ebiom…
