Are you interested in moving to Sweden for a postdoc, perhaps in my lab? Take a look at the PULSE program for international postdocs and drop me a line if you are interested in this opportunity and maybe writing an application together! scilifelab.se/research/pulse…

Emjoyed a fantastic programme at Reef Conservation UK symposium with Manlin and Padmasini in London Zoo. Powerful presentations from many PhD students and my favourite talk was on place based conservation in the Lakshadweep islands

Are #corals moving to colder waters because of #climatechange? The answer is no, or not yet. High latitudes corals and their symbiotic algae friends have been there for quite a long time, and are different to the ones in tropical reefs link.springer.com/article/10.100…

How do we know this? We sampled Pocillopora corals along the Kuroshio current, from the southern islands of Okinawa to Wakayama in mainland Japan. Not being able to move means that tropical corals are continuously threatened by the effects of climate change. Because high latitude corals are locally adapted to the marginal reefs, they are every bit as vulnerable too, as climate change changes marginal reef conditions also.

Fiona Chong (@fionidae) 's Twitter Profile Photo

TL;DR: high latitude, marginal reefs are special places but not safe havens for corals under climate change. Climate change is real, by the way.
