In a joint statement this week, the editors and editorial board of the Journal of Human Evolution resigned from the Elsevier-owned journal. In their statement, they revealed that Elsevier had introduced AI into article production. I'm an author in the journal, and I was stunned.

This is a truly wild article. About 5% of cyanobacteria fished from the ocean are connected via nanotubes. These nanotubes are made from lipid membranes. Also, E. coli will sometimes grab onto microbes of *other* species, using these nanotubes, and share nutrients.

Claire Silver, who says "taste is the new skill", has issued an entirely vibes based manifesto on why AI doesn't steal. Claire uses Midjourney extensively, so here's her manifesto next to what MJ can do based on 1-2 word, non-specific prompts. Is this inspiration or plagiarism?

Super exciting to see the Penghu jaw confirmed as Denisovan— its features line up beautifully with what we predicted Denisovan mandibles to look like! More in the thread 🧵 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31539495/

Calling c the "speed of light" completely misses the point. Rather, c is the "spacetime exchange rate": how many units of space you can exchange for one unit of time. In actuality, everything travels at the "speed of light", just not necessarily through space alone... (1/4)
