Day 5 #MoveAMileADayinMay started with a wander through the grounds of #BelfastCityHall. Do you know there are 20 statues in the grounds -only 3 of which are women.. 🤔 Highly recommend walking tour #WellBehavedWomenSeldomMakeHistory to hear about women who shaped #Belfast

Day 6 #MoveAMileADayinMay brought an unusual sight on our walk this evening with a full-scale replica of a 2nd World War #Spitfire in front of Parliament Buildings to commemorate Victory in Europe.

Day 8 and taking #MoveAMileaDayInMay on our travels. Quite the walk to the restaurant we picked tonight but well worth it!

Day 9 #MoveAMileADAayinMay a quick 4k run & then walk before breakfast 🌞

Day 11 #MoveAMileaDayinMay started with a slow 4k run (too hot) then some yoga 🧘 Pretty much the perfect Monday 🌞

Day 16 #MoveAMileADayinMay helped by my mum 😊 Despite her mobility issues at 81 yrs she walks every day & is enjoying helping to plant lots of flowers in the communal garden Clanmil Housing Dementia Friendly Supported Housing Belfast proving you can live well with dementia 💙

Day 17 #MoveAMileADayinMay gym with Alfie Boe then a fab morning running at the reservoir #KnockbrackenParkrun & a late afternoon walk with Brodie .. The sunshine makes everything better 🌞 but I’m glad to finally sit down!

Day 24 #MoveAMileADayinMay posting of behalf of a colleague who has been so motivated because of this challenge that he started running a mile a day.. and competed his first parkrun UK this morning! Im so delighted for him & so proud he took the steps because of #socialworkni

Day 26 #MoveAMileADayinMay a very wet walk then coffee & brunch for 3 ☕️ 🐾 🐶

Day 31 & sadly the final #MoveAMileADayInMay - hopefully everyone has been inspired to do something every day that really helps with health & wellbeing. Great to finish my month with 5kYWBelfastOrmeau Ormeau parkrun - a fantastic community that I’m so proud to be part of 💙🎀

The Department of Health Permanent Secretary Mike Farrar and Chief Social Worker Aine Morrison recently joined social work colleagues for the #MoveaMileaDay initiative. The initiative promotes the benefit of physical activity 🚶‍♂️

“If exercise was a pill it would be prescribed to everyone”! The risk of developing a cancer recurrence or a new cancer was 28% lower in the group given the exercise programme! After 8 years the risk of dying from any cause was 37% lower in the group given the exercise programme
