In the end, the thing about AI, as with all new technology, is whether we invest in it sensibly and how we use it....You are able to see AI everywhere, except in the productivity statistics thetimes.co.uk/article/25e97b…

First solar farm connects directly to national grid: why are we doing this... just put it on the roof close to where the energy is needed.. plenty of roof space on supermarkets, warehouses, and football stadiums! thetimes.co.uk/article/e065df…

I despair. Is this the result of self vested interests, either directly or sub consciously… ? If we convert buildings to being energy positive that will be much cheaper. Will the energy system catapult please challenge this thinking... guynewey thetimes.co.uk/article/a49e00…

We spent £1m on electric chargers — but we don’t have the power to use them... so a better answer is to generate and store the power locally at the point of use, using solar panels and batteries. thetimes.co.uk/article/a3111e…

Meanwhile in the uk we are thinking of softening the regulations on banning the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles and banning the installation of gas boilers in newbuid housing. We have workable solutions… Electric vehicles and heat pumps: we just need to get on with it!

The Lords Science & Technology Committee report on long-duration storage is out today. Important stuff. My only critique is that this should sit within a wider debate on energy security: long-duration storage is necessary but not sufficient for a clean, affordable and resilient energy supply.
