82% of DI schools opted into the House settlement. Appears they view athletics as bringing a positive return to the university, even with the cost of paying the athletes. The benefits athletic programs bring to a university aren’t captured by athletic department P&L statements.

This is a great example of how DI schools that don’t play FBS 🏈 have a huge opportunity in 🏀. UT-Chattanooga’s men’s 🏀 payroll is almost $2.7M. That’s on par with P4 teams, b/c so much of their cap is going to 🏈 . How long do we think P4 schools go along with this?

Pete has it right. With the CSC backtracking on its “valid business purpose” guidance, collective deals will continue as part of player compensation packages & part of recruiting. Team payrolls essentially just grew. Schools that got rid of collectives, time to bring ‘em back.

The statement is missing some info, so I added it here in parentheses.🫡 “Pay-for-play will not be permitted (unless paid for by schools), and every NIL deal done with a student-athlete must be a legitimate NIL deal, not pay-for-play in disguise (except for deals with schools).”
