It's national #ThreatenedSpeciesDay. Half of all known handfish species are considered threatened with extinction (IUCN Red List), and for another 5 species we do not have enough data to know their status. @TSCommissioner #BiodiversityCrisis #conservation #extinction

It's not often that Macquarie Island cushion plants and handfish are mentioned in the same conversation... Thanks to Postgraduate Society for Biological Sciences & @MelRoseWells for organising today's #ThreatenedSpeciesDay bake-off University of Tasmania to raise awareness for our #imperiled species.

They're rare, they're tiny, but they have big hands. Tasmania's red handfish crawl along the seafloor, but they're one of the world's most endangered fish, writes Dr John Turnbull (UNSW) + Jemina Stuart-Smith (University of Tasmania). bit.ly/3ylV3HT

Educational presents can have great outcomes: ‘Hold On! Saving the #spottedhandfish’ was a favourite with my niece, and her class for #bookweek. So much so that Handfish Conservation Project was the beneficiary of a fundraising effort #Educatingthenextgeneration #BiodiversityConservation
