On this day in 1925, the Monkey House (current Primate House) opened to the public. Construction for a 35,000-square-foot outdoor expansion of the Primate House is underway. Primate Canopy Trails will consist of eight new outdoor homes for primates & open to the public in 2021.

This is a juvenile dead leaf mantis. They are a predatory species from Malaysia. Mimicking dead leaves they will even go as far as to fall to the ground when threatened and play dead. They are sexually dimorphic with the females being significantly larger.
