We traveled around the state, from Portland to Skowhegan to Old Town, talking to Mainers burdened with medical debt. Again and again, we heard what we already knew. Healthcare costs are too high in our state, and too many people are struggling to keep up.

Over the years, due to numerous surgeries, specialist appointments, and prescription medications, Kim Earley has accumulated more than $2,000,000 in medical debt. This is an unacceptable and insurmountable sum. We cannot tolerate such disregard for basic humanity.

No one should go into debt because they require medical care. Canceling debt for 1,500 Mainers isn't exactly justice, but it's the next best thing while we wait for lawmakers to recognize healthcare is a human right. #mepolitics
