I never believed the day will come but I just got racially profiled at Sports Direct Lakeside @JDSports. The salesperson literally stopped to ask me if I paid for the things I bought. 😲😲😲 Like I'm completely shook

1. Dear Sports Direct I would like to make an official complaint about the treatment I was given at your Thurrock Lakeside store yesterday 17th April 2021. Kindly let me know the best way to go about this.

2. I went into Sports Direct to exchange some clothes I purchased the previous day. I picked all the pieces I needed from the ground floor and went upstairs to the #USC tills as I was instructed. According to the staff returns and exchanges were handled there.

3. I used the lift because I had my little one in a buggy and also had the clothes I bought the previous day plus the ones I needed to exchange them with. Out from the lift, I saw a staff standing around, I guess he was managing that area. Sports Direct

4.I exchanged greetings with the fellow and made way through the store stopping once to look at a green jacket I liked.I eventually put it back as I wasn't familiar with the brand. All thru your staff was staring at me.He went to rearrange the jacket after I left Sports Direct

5. I went to the tills and finished my transaction and was issued a new receipt. This particular staff was standing not so far and saw me at the tills. On my way out, he approached me out of everyone in the store- who thankfully were mostly White people and said Sports Direct

6. Did you pay for the things in your bag or did you just come here to look around?😲😲 I then asked why he was asking that question and why me out of everyone in store. Then he replied " because people have been coming up here to steal things"😳😳 Sports Direct

7. I asked for the supervisor (Chris - that's his name). Initially he tried to defend his staff saying he instructed them to ask people those questions. Then after a back and forth with me,he started apologising after I pointed out that 1. nobody else was stopped Sports Direct

8.Secondly, the staff in question saw me walk through the store with the same bag I came with and clothes I picked from the ground floor. He was watching me the whole time even when I was at the tills. What was it about me that looked suspicious?🤔Why was I stopped?Sports Direct

9. The manager actually said to me-we sell our more expensive products on this floor,so we tend to ask people if they've paid for their items because we've been experiencing alot of theft. But, I'm the only person stopped so far.Other 'white' people are going about freely why me?

10. Finally Sports Direct , I'm not trying to make any trouble but I believe you need to do alot of work in training your staff about unconscious bias. The manager only apologised after I made him see how discriminatory it was to single the only black person out of everyone

In almost a decade of living in this country, Nobody has ever randomly stopped me in a shop not even at the exit to ask if I paid for my purchase. There's a reason why you have security tags on products. To say that I was embarrassed yesterday is an understatement-Sports Direct

Breaking News!!! Well, the cat is out of the bag and I'm extremely happy to announce that we won a mortgage lottery courtesy of Halifax . Essentially we now own our home and are completely mortgage free. P.S - Please going forward, you should address me as Madam Landlady 🤣

I have reported my incident to Metropolitan Police and I've returned to the Primark store on #oxfordstreet to understand what the next steps are. The security guard essentially told me to forget about the incident and move on. I need to see the footage of how my phone got stolen.

Fast Fashion has become some sort of a global pandemic but I'm not sure if we are ready for the conversation. Can't tell when the spike started, but fast fashion has me and a lot of others like me on a mental chokehold—and some of us just can’t stop. blanck.uk/post/the-curse…
