Proud to join Erik Bottcher press conference ahead of our New York City Council hearing on his bill requiring gun stores to display graphic imagery & written warning signage  about dangers of keeping a firearm at home. Toys, pharmaceuticals, cigarettes and alcohol all have consumer warnings.

We also heard bills by Councilmember Chris Banks that will ensure transparency for tax prep by requiring itemized statements to prevent “surprise” fees and Council Member Erik Bottcher’s timely & critical bill to require firearm dealers to post clear warning signs which promote #gunsafety! /2

As a closeted gay kid, stories and histories within books were the only place I could learn about who I was. That is why I am so proud to have passed the Freedom to Read Act to end school book bans with Senator Rachel May (RachelMayNY.bsky.social). A big thank you to the orgs who got this over the finish line!

It was wonderful to visit the Edie Windsor SAGE Senior Center today with Council Member Erik Bottcher! Senior centers like these are the heartbeat of our communities, and New York City Council will always support our beloved older adults.

On Juneteenth, we commemorate the true end of slavery in the U.S., marking the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom. It’s a day for reflection, celebration and a continued commitment to equality and justice for all.

Yesterday, our community stood in powerful solidarity with our trans friends, neighbors, and loved ones after the devastating Supreme Court decision. Huge thanks to the ACLU and all who showed up to say loud and clear: we won’t stop fighting for trans rights. 🏳️‍⚧️✊
