Me: I’m being priced out of LA YIMBYs: that’s awful, it shouldn’t happen Leftists: Well, it sounds like it’s your fault for needing to move. Are you even really poor? It’s normal to exile people from our city because they need a new apartment.

🏘️ ACTION ALERT — This week is the deadline to pass major housing reforms in Illinois! The Missing Middle Housing Act, and Accessory Dwelling Unit Act will deliver new housing to a state that badly needs it. And it won’t cost taxpayers a dime. Send your electeds a letter in

The Chicago Transit Authority needs to make the budget work via fare increases or other revenue that accompanies organizational reforms and oversight: any service cuts will be a surrender that says Chicago is willing to slide into 2nd-rate city status.

Posturing after not getting rid of Dorval, after appointing connected Pastors to Transit Boards, after spending more time asking for stadium money in Springfield, and after ignoring time after time that transit advocates pushed for better leadership at all levels. But hey,

Given that public housing costs 2-4x more than market-rate to develop (a pattern seen across the country), cities should seriously consider just outright purchasing housing from developers or sellers at market rates instead of trying to build their own.

This is such a damning indictment of blue city governance. Of course there is a backlash to things like spending >$1 million per unit of affordable housing. Taxpayers are getting totally ripped off.

Not me tho. YIMBY socialism ascendant, get with the program!! Socialists can run public provision AND markets better than capitalists, that’s my belief! We have an actual ideological interest in opposing elite capture and monopolies/cartels, which degrade market efficiency

Planning departments aren't neutral experts—they're institutions traumatized by decades of NIMBY meetings, encoding unreasonable opposition into 'professional wisdom.' When we're forced to learn planning jargon we are playing a rigged game. 👇

I keep hearing "these new apartments are expensive, so they won't improve affordability". This is wrong. New supply reduces the price of existing dwellings, as in any market. The price of the new units makes little difference. 1/6

Excellent read. We really only have two options. Either consolidate some of these schools. Or the city gets serious about population growth at all costs. Go big on mixed use family oriented housing in these neighborhoods.

Yes, actually Leftists should agree with this! The core principle of socialism is that the current distribution of stuff is unfair and the working class should have more of it "aMeRiCaNs hAvE tOo mUcH sTuFf" isn't even a real leftist take, it's a reactionary third worldist take

The marginal hard cost per sqft rises discontinuously in a stepwise function because of building code triggers, with an especially large cliff at 75ft where IBC triggers "hi-rise" safety features That means the same lot could pencil 6 stories or 30 stories, but not 8 stories
