In May 1819, a bruising encounter between two pugilists took place at “Belcher's Valley”, on The Curragh of Kildare. The fight between Langan and McGrowran lasted 36 rounds in 1 hour and 47 minutes. Langan was victorious in the end. curragh.info/archives/Pugil…

On the 18th February 1820, the legendary Irish pugilist Sir Dan Donnelly passed away at his home in Dublin, aged 31. Dan Donnelly fought and beat George Cooper at the Curragh on the 13th November 1813 and went on to be a celebrity in the UK and Ireland. curragh.info/archives/DanDo…

In August 1805, a large scale military encampment took place on the Curragh of Kildare. Six divisions of troops took their place on the plains. On the bugle signal and in little more than two minutes, tents were erected and the camp was formed. curragh.info/archives/Curra…

On this day, 10th September 1949, the first International Motor Car Racing took place on the Curragh Camp. The motor racing took place on the “Curragh Big Circuit”, each lap 5 miles in distance. The "big circuit" encompassed part of the main Limerick Road. curragh.info/archives/Inter…
