The two big tests of today’s announcement on cladding are a) will it provide enough funding to fix the problem and b) will it protect leaseholders from having to pay for a scandal that was not of their making. It must do both. Leeds Cladding Scandal UK Cladding Action Group Leasehold Knowledge

PM’s pathetic prevarication is excruciating - unable to answer questions on business rates relief, extending furlough and evictions policy. Mindless repetition of Government “putting its arms around the British people” is sickening #PMQs

Government's cladding announcement is "too late for too many" and "backtracks on key [promise] that leaseholders should have no costs to pay", says shadow housing secretary Thangam Debbonaire bbc.in/3tGVBoK

Today's #cladding announcement is an improvement, but is still far short of the mark. This should've been dealt with years ago by a non partisan Royal Commission type process of politicians, fire safety, mortgage firms, buildings firms, those impacted and more to find a route.

"Why should this arbitrary 18 metre height limit mean the difference between a safe home and financial ruin?" says shadow housing secretary Thangam Debbonaire The government has announced an extra £3.5bn to remove unsafe cladding from buildings over 18m bbc.in/3d0F0X4

Caroline Lucas (@carolinelucas) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Leaving leaseholders in blocks lower than 18m having to pay to make their homes safe is grossly unfair For many families, the £50/month max charge is unaffordable Nor is fire risk just from #cladding. Funding has to cover a range of serious fire safety problems #CladdingScandal

A fire does not discriminate between burning down a building 18 metres tall or a building 17 metres tall. It's official, when the government said 18 (yes eighteen) different times that leaseholders wouldn't have to pay for unsafe cladding they lied. What an absolute disgrace.

I was disappointed not to be able to ask a question during today's statement on cladding. In particular I would have asked the Secretary of State for more details on support for leaseholders in buildings below 18m, and financing of safety works other than cladding removal.

I don’t understand why the developers, cladding companies, those who signed off their specs and their respective insurers, don’t have to foot the bill to make all the buildings safe. They are the ones who chose/permitted dangerous materials to be used. #CladdingScandal

I cannot understand why Government is not funding remedial work to fix cladding on properties under 18m in height. This limit seems rather arbitrary. It is the state's failure and it should therefore meet the costs to fix the issues. theguardian.com/society/2021/f…

Really upsets me when I see non-leaseholders saying ‘taxpayers shouldn’t pay for your repairs’. I paid for furlough. I paid for free school meals. I pay for so much I don’t directly benefit from. It shouldn’t be us v taxpayers as with any other scandal. #EndOurCladdingScandal

Banks are moving 1.2 trillion euros from UK to EU. Bloomberg. Those tricked by the Brexiters have no idea of the scale of the harm being done. We are an economy in reverse, an un-developing, dismantling economy - as a result of the first ever trade deal designed to worsen trade.

If the words 'Proportional Representation' make you switch off, we get it. We do. But, please understand, *you are being had* as a result. Because with First Past the Post, every issue you do care about is settled by a party most people rejected at the ballot box.

Really important debate in the House of Commons this afternoon on the #FireSafetyBill I trust that we will get the opportunity to vote on all the amendments which seek to prevent leaseholders from having to pay to fix fire safety defects that are not their fault. Leeds Cladding Scandal

There’s going to be a Westminster Hall debate on leaseholders and interim fire safety costs next Wednesday 10 Mar at 9.30am. Big thank you to my colleague Florence Eshalomi MP for securing it. The campaign continues. Leeds Cladding Scandal UK Cladding Action Group Leasehold Knowledge

Birthday today and as a birthday present I’d be very happy if you could have a read of this 🧵, based on the latest of reports on the building safety crisis from me and Jake Morris. The more you learn about the scandal, the more you realise just how astonishing a story it is.
