Careful scrutiny is not “procedural delay”. The Bill is a shipwreck. It should have been a govt Bill, with a White Paper, proper consultation and pre-legislative scrutiny. It’s mad trying to do it as a Private Member’s Bill.

Moment of the day? Baroness Finlay quotes to Lord Falconer *his own* 2011 report, which said people should not receive an assisted death because of “lack of access to adequate end-of-life care and support.” Falconer suddenly stops nodding.

Nikki da Costa (@nmdacosta) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Something very odd is happening behind the scenes on Kim Leadbeater’s Assisted Dying Bill. Multiple sources say Falconer is talking up with Govt bypassing the House of Lords entirely using the Parliament Acts — and has been planning this since the summer 1/

It’s clearly impossible for the Terminally Ill Adults Bill to proceed in the face of this level of medical opposition. Would MPs have voted for it at 3rd Reading if they had known this? I doubt it.

Complete abuse of the system by the PM: "It is now clear that the process in the Commons bypassed the usual processes for developing laws of this magnitude and that everyone has been misled about the nature and origin of the bill"! And the Lords should just acquiesce?!

Right To Life UK They are more than drafting changes. Some seek to dial back commons changes. I didn’t get an answer on whether Jess Asato MP had been spoken to about dialling back on her changes

Jess Asato MP (@jess4lowestoft) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Tanni Grey-Thompson Right To Life UK I’ve not been approached at all. The changes are material and remove the specificity I deliberately put into the amendments to ensure the training covered coercive and controlling behaviour, financial abuse AND ensured it was mandatory for those involved in the process.

The Health Secretary KNOWS Starmer's Bill is NOT safe. People will be "compelled to take up an assisted death" because of the state of NHS and palliative care. He is an honest man but the Prime Minister has compelled his and every minister's silence. 🙏Josh Fenton-Glynn MP.

🚨THE HEALTH SECRETARY KNOWS THE BILL ISN’T SAFE! Watch Wes Streeting, a prominent opponent of assisted suicide, admit the country “at present” is not in a place where assisted suicide can be safely introduced. His initial silence speaks volumes!

MPs chose to impose this Bill on Wales where the situation on palliative and hospice care is even worse. Eleri Cubbage points out to the New Statesman a quarter of the population does not have access to hospice beds. Where is the choice for them?

A powerful reminder: perspective is everything! I saw this video again today. Created by the Guardian in 1986. Still the smartest lesson in human perception. It hits me every time: We don’t see reality. We see our angle. And a small shift can flip the whole story. In the age

It appears there is no mechanism where parliament can get answers as to what Starmer's Bill means for this country. FOIs refused. PQs not answered. Interventions rejected. Inadequate Equality Impact Assessments.
