Great to see an insight published on our new work! We use computational modeling, microscopy, and network theory to show that the functional network of the islet is the result of a complex interplay between gap junctions and intrinsic dynamics. Richard Benninger Isabella Marinelli

I’m thrilled to announce I am joining the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at CU Anschutz Medical Campus! I can’t wait to bridge our prior work on metabolic and epigenomic regulation of beta cell (mal)adaptation into the T1D space. I’ll be recruiting at all levels—reach out if interested!

Wow! Mathematical modelling of insulin secretion, integrating many upstream and downstream processes - including dual effects of H2O2 and NADPH (and SENP1) at distinct points in secretion. From some colleagues in Maribor. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

BiorXiv: Islet GLP1-R signaling has 2x effect on 1st phase amplitude, 4x effect on frequency of Ca2+ oscillations (proxy for 2nd phase insulin secretion), 1st responders, and hubs - all without gut - derived GLP. Alpha cells & glucagon are main suspects. doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…

Check out the pre-print for the influence of alpha cells on islet Ca2+ responses, including first-responders and first phase timing/amplitude. Was great to be part of this!
