Allow me to wish the people of Kurdistan, and also those who celebrate this holiday around the globe, a happy Newroz. Newroz symbolizes liberty from oppression and subordination. I sincerely hope that the coming year will bring more peace, prosperity, and tranquility to all.

Today marks the 47th anniversary of the bombardment of the city of Qaladiza where hundreds of civilians, including college professors and students were martyred. That heinous crime was the start of the genocidal campaign of the previous regime against the people of Kurdistan.

Pleased to receive Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javad Zarif today at the Barzani HQ where we spoke of some of the political developments as well as the challenges facing Iraq and the region as a whole.

Delighted to receive Iraqi President, Barham Salih today at the Barzani HQ. Dr. Barham and I discussed various issues in Iraq especially insofar as the Baghdad-Erbil relations are concerned.

Productive meeting today at the Barzani HQ with the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, محمد الحلبوسي where we discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, including the upcoming elections.

It is indeed too fitting today to recall the epic battle of Mount Hindreen against the previous regime of Iraq by the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Communist Party in 1966. That day is indeed a historic day for us where the previous regime faced a great defeat.

I am delighted to hear that DFCgov's agreement with Dana Gas has secured $250m to expand the KRI’s Khor Mor gas plant. This will increase our production of clean, cheap electricity; and create many jobs here in Kurdistan so we can build a better future for our homeland.

Soran has sacrificed historically for Kurdistani rights, so I was pleased to be there today to inaugurate it as an independent administration in Kurdistan and to appoint Halgurd Najib as its head.

The positive response of 93% of the participants of the Kurdistan Independence Referendum was a historic achievement. On the 4th anniversary of that spectacular victory, I commend the heroic people of Kurdistan for invariably refusing to bow down.
