The BBC has flaws like any large institution but while it can be criticised by both left and right for being too far right and/or left, it must be representing our complicated, divided country, pretty well. #BBCLicenceFee

I am well aware that the BBC makes mistakes and needs to change but the media landscape would be much poorer without it. Those 3 letters are trusted and respected around the world.

If you want an example of the benefits of state funding start with CBBC: there’s no other place for children’s entertainment that as safe, as educational & as careful to include & represent. Only The BBC could make Operation Ouch.

One week into lockdown the BBC launched the biggest educational programme in its recent history to ensure children had learning support. No other platform could/would do that

I’m often struck by how many who say they don’t consume BBC output in fact do, in one form or another - the FA Cup, local radio, CBeebies, online, the news etc - and it costs them per day about an eighth of the cost a cappuccino at Costa. I think that’s good value.

Acutely intelligent, sensitive to Russia as much as to Ukraine, clear about the horror of war - quietly immensely courageous - @zelenskyyUa is an extraordinary man. This is one of the most remarkable speeches ever made - in dignified contrast to Putin’s hysterical megalomania.

Jemima is feeling a little poorly today, but is a full-on convert to Eggs in Purgatory (with garlic naan?!?) for get-well medicine. Thank you Nigella Lawson!

This is the most self inflicted act of soft power vandalism I can think of. Why reduce coverage and cede ground that when lost will never be regained?
