Cytotoxic T cells (magenta) killing lymphoma cells (cyan) over the course of an hour. Target death seen by “popping” of the nucleus (yellow). Left one struggles; right one kills with ease. Open research question: why do some T cells kill better than others? 3-channel volumes

For reference: at peak plasma concentration (in the middle of the night), humans have around 300-500 ng of melatonin circulating in their blood So this is like a 20 000X physiological dose 😂

I used to be a hardcore IIFYM guy. A calorie is a calorie, right? New Nature Medicine paper shows that, even when protein, total carbs, total fat, salt, and fibre are equivalent, a minimally-processed diet outperforms an ultra-processed diet for fat loss over an 8-week RCT.

This is true, but it shouldn’t be true. These are basic life skills that should be acquired from adolescence onwards. It’s a bit of an indictment of the education system that PhD candidates are relatively devoid of these attributes & therefore find a PhD to be a trial by fire.
