It is concerning that even in calmer, pre-AI times, load forecasts have been wrong -- usually overestimated -- and used to justify all sorts of utility spending that is paid for, one way or another, by the demand that is already on the system.

Good summary below of DOE's filing. It is extremely rare that DOE files a proposed rule at FERC. This one is, legally speaking, particularly odd. It also gives FERC a teeny tiny boost in the pending litigation about Order No 1920 (regional transmission planning).

Where do all the people who are stuck huffing the fumes of the F150 fit into this analogy? Somehow this aspect is always out of mind in a lot of these discussions…

Great thread by Travis Kavulla as always. On this point, wildly wrong electricity load forecasting has been a constant - across decades, across RTOs/ISOs, across region or country level forecasts, etc. Forecasting electricity demand is incredibly hard. Those in market claiming to

Decision Desk has called *both* of Georgia's statewide races, for public service commissioner, for Democratic challengers over GOP incumbents. If confirmed, this would be a really huge win for Georgia Dems: It'd be Dems'' 1st statewide win in any non-federal race since 2006.

I filed an amicus brief at the Supreme Court on behalf of 11 former FERC Commissioners. The brief seeks to preserve Congress's authority to maintain bipartisan ratemaking commissions and prevent direct Presidential control of ratemaking. Summary and link:

"There are no meaningful subsidies for fossil fuels." What is it called when you know something isn't true, but you say it anyways?

The lack of consistent standards for aggregators of DR in MISO/SPP states similarly results in an unworkable patchwork of participation pathways that delays or denies participation in wholesale markets and results in unJ&R rates. Hey, @FERC let's get the low hanging fruit!

Next week, @FERC will address several long-running dockets on co-location of generation with large loads in PJM. FERC doesn't appear to be acting on DOE's ANOPR proposal on this subject yet, but what it does here will have obvious implications for that. 1/
